Promoting Yourself

Top Promotional Tips

The tips below will mean the difference between your getting some work, and a lot of work.

ALWAYS REPLY TO ALL INITIAL EMAILS - even the ones that are probably from timewasters. (Though if you think they are wasting time, simply tell them to provide FULL details. If they are, they won't).

  • Get an Agent
    • Contact us as we know the good UK agents.
  • Contact Photographers Direct and ASK FOR WORK
    • Lots of models simply wait for emails. You are in business - you need to promote yourself, at least until you have got enough contacts to provide good regular work.
    • You can contact hundreds of photographers via this site. Develop a routine of emailing say 10 a day, every day, and when you've emailed everyone, just start again.
    • I can do a bulk email to site members (over 1000 professional and amateur photographers). Contact me for info.
  • Get a Showreel
    • This is a video package that shows your personality and vitality. It's not important for stills models, but if you want to do video work, TV work or presenting you should get one.
    • We shoot these, and currently there's no charge.
  • Join ALL the Model Sites, Forums and Boards
    • Each site tends to have it's own group of photographers who like it, so by being on all of them, you can reach the right people. This site, for example, is very strong with professional and serious amateurs shooting adult at all levels.
  • Reputation
    • Reputation is everything. If you start pulling no shows word gets out and soon no one will book you.
    • It is important to realise that NO ONE CARES why you were a no show because 95% of the time the excuse given is a lie, especially when the model is new or inexperienced. People see "no show" and understand "bottled out" or "flake", depending on their mood.
  • Make Your Own Content (for a Paysite in due course)
    • Your own material, esp your early material, will be perfect of a paysite later in your career. Spend time making it, usually working with other models on a Content Share Basis.
    • Paysites and content sales can provide very good income once you have a name, but a paysite will need to be treated as a business to work. (You can't just build it and wait for the money to roll in. It needs marketing and promotion).
