Health & Safety
Stay Safe
Going to a shoot can be a risky thing - meeting someone you don't know, possibly alone.
Trust your gut instinct
If it's telling you not to take the job, DON'T.
If you've arrived somewhere and you are getting dodgy vibes, leave. Put it down to experience.
Have a Car
If you have driven to the location you can leave whenever you like. If you got collected from a station and are now in some soulless suburb,or, worse still, the countryside, you can't.
Have escape money
If you've got 100 quid in cash you can get home.
Chaperones
All good photographers/producers will allow a chaperone, and while asking them to stay out of the room/studio they will be within earshot.
Locations
Professional Studios are obviously much safer than hotels and houses.
If you work from home, think about rigging up a security camera to monitor the room(s) you shoot in.
Safety in Spanking/CP and hard BDSM/Fetish
If this isn't a scene you are personally into, but will consider for shoots, be warned.
I know too many models who have said yes to this type of work, and then been hurt/bruised much more badly than they expected. The work can pay very well, but if you do get bruised, you need to take time off.
My advice is to ask the following questions:-
- Will it hurt?
- Will it bruise?
- Will it bleed?
- Do you respect safe words?
GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING.
If you feel that a photographer/producer has mislead you, please let me know as if several models flag the same person, I can delete them from this site.
If someone goes beyond the agreed terms - i.e. does things to which you have not consented, they are guilty of the criminal offence of assault (possibly worse). This is something which you can go to the police with. More to the point, you can tell the guy that if he doesn't back off, you will do so.
HIV, STDs and Certificates
For anything involving unprotected sex, there are risks.
Professionals doing hardcore get HIV/STD Certificates - showing that they are clean.
Certs cover:-
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhoea
- Syphilis
- HIV
Certs are generally considered valid for 30 days (1 month) from DATE OF TEST. (NHS certs can take a week+ to arrive, so if using the NHS, get tested every three weeks.
Places to get tested. This is not a full list, if you know other places, just add them in a comment. NHS hospitals make their own rules, and while they will all TEST for free, most do not supply certs, or they charge for them, and some I have been told charge £100+. Porn modeling is not something most hospitals want to encourage by handing out certs easily.
- London - Charing Cross Hospital - Main place for adult testing, used by most London area people. Certs are £35. Nearest Tube - Hammersmith. www.chelwest.nhs.uk/
- London - Paddington. NHS. No other details, but is FREE. However I have been told it's "walk in" not appointment based, so check, and take a book, and be there for morning opening.
- London - Private option - Regents Park Clinic.
- Swindon - Great Western Hospital - www.swindon-marlborough.nhs.uk/ - model advised they do certs, £40 (from autumn 07).
- Bristol - Milne Centre for Sexual Health, Bristol Royal Infirmary, BS2 8HW, 0117 928 2580, Payment - we have been told £15.
- Bristol - Clinic Express - private clinic. www.clinic-express.co.uk/
- Bath - RUH - www.ruh.nhs.uk/.
- Manchester and London - Regents Park Clinic - private clinic used by many of the top girls. Fast turn round of results and certs. http://www.regentsparkclinic.com/
- Mansfield - Kingsmill hospital mansfield free test but charge £30.00 for certs takes 10 days to get certs after testing
- Newcastle Upon Tyne - Newcastle General does certs for £15 takes a week to get results and certs
- Nottingham - Kings Mill Hospital, seems £30 for certs.
- Manchester - Medilab (private clinic)
- Manchester - Trafford Hospital
Talking Point - The HPV vaccine (Gardasil)
Bullet notes provided by a Sexual Health Doctor, summary my own.
- The vaccine is only useful for women who have never been infected with HPV (types 6, 11, 16 ,18). The older you are, the more sexual contacts you have had, the less likley this is.
- Many girls acquire HPV from their very first sexual contact.
- By the time the typical american girl is 25, she already has a 50% chance of having had a HPV type 16 or 18 infection. The cost may outweigh the benefit at this stage.
- There is no harm to health in giving the vaccine to a girl who had already had the infection; it would simply not have any benefit and would be a needless expense.
- A blood test for antibodies to HPV can tell us whether a girl has had HPV sometime in the past. However, this test is not routinely available in the UK*.
- A swab for HPV from the cervix (vagina) will tell us if a girl has a HPV at the current time. It will not give information about previous HPV infections.
- Most HPV infections are transient. The immune system clears 90% of infections within 2 years**. This is less likely if the girl smokes.
Summary - for adult models - probably a waste of money, (that 50% of American girls includes all the abstaining Christians, and loved up 1-2 partners only in entire life types. For people with a more active sex life, the chances of having had an infection are much higher).

Regents Park Clinc
Used them recently to get a cert for a shoot. Professional, explain every stage of the test and keep one at ease. Recommended for performers and producers within the London area. Also if you need regular testing after first test the test become cheaper as long as they are every 30 days.
